Remote Booths

Remote booths (formerly known as ‘trigger booths’) are on-site peer support booths that can be booked for events where sensitive topics may be discussed or where triggering activities may occur.

If anyone at the event would like support, they can go to the remote booth to speak to a trained PSC supervisor or volunteer.

Examples of events where remote booths may be appropriate include:

  • Events where people may get overwhelmed (ex. where there is lots of noise, stimulation, risk, or physical activity)
  • Discussions of topics that may be considered triggering, such as sexual violence or discrimination
  • Events that may bring up strong emotions, such as memorials or vigils

Guidelines for Booking a Remote Booth

  • Remote booths must be placed separate from the main event space. We request that the event organizers provide us with a location removed enough from the main event that all client interactions can be private and confidential. A completely enclosed room and a closing door is preferred.
  • We request that remote booth bookings be made at least 2 weeks in advance of the event. If the request is sent with less than 2 weeks’ notice, the PSC cannot guarantee that we will have the necessary number of volunteers and supervisors to staff the booth.
  • Every PSC remote booth will have 1 PSC supervisor and 1 volunteer. If you think your event will need more support and therefore require more than 2 PSC representatives, please include this information in your initial request.
  • If you would like to request volunteers from Queers 4 Peers or BIPOC Talk, please also specify this in your initial request.
  • In the event of an emergency during a support session with an event attendee, the PSC reserves the right to enact its emergency procedures to their fullest extent to protect the safety and wellbeing of students in its care. This may include contacting services such as Campus Security, 911, or the AMHS-KFLA Mental Health Crisis Team. If the event is set up in such a way that emergency services will be unable to access it, we will unfortunately not be able to provide a booth.

Who Are These Trainings For?

The PSC can deliver these trainings to anyone! However, they may be particularly useful for students who are involved in supporting others, such as Orientation leaders, club executives, volunteers/placement students, Residence students and staff, and student leaders.

If you’d like us to customize the trainings for a certain group or demographic, just let us know.
